From independent Punjabi releases to international chart success, Guru Randhawa has become one of the defining voices of contemporary Indian pop music. By blending Punjabi melodies with modern pop, R&B, bhangra, and Bollywood influences, he has created a catalog of globally recognized hits while helping introduce Punjabi-language music to audiences far beyond its traditional roots. Equally accomplished as a singer, songwriter, composer, and performer, he has established himself as one of the most commercially successful artists of his generation.
Born Gursharanjot Singh Randhawa in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India, he developed a passion for music at an early age while studying in Delhi. His stage name, "Guru," was given to him by rapper Bohemia, who encouraged him to shorten his birth name. After beginning his career with independent releases, he achieved his breakthrough with "Patola" (2015), a collaboration with Bohemia that became one of the first Punjabi songs to surpass 100 million YouTube views. Recording through labels including T-Series, Speed Records, Times Music, Warner Music India, Zee Music Company, and Sony Music India, his recorded catalog is anchored by commercially successful releases including "High Rated Gabru," "Lahore," "Suit," "Ban Ja Rani," "Ishare Tere," "Made in India," "Slowly Slowly," "Naach Meri Rani," and "Dance Meri Rani," songs that collectively established him as one of the leading crossover artists in Punjabi and Indian popular music.
Beyond his success as an independent recording artist, Randhawa has become one of Bollywood's leading playback singers, contributing music to films including Hindi Medium, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Blackmail, Simmba, and Saaho. He has collaborated with artists including Bohemia, Pitbull, Neha Kakkar, Dhvani Bhanushali, Tulsi Kumar, Nikhita Gandhi, Arjun, and Yo Yo Honey Singh, while making his acting debut in Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay (2024).
His achievements include the PTC Punjabi Music Award for Best Duo/Group (2016) for "Patola," the Brit Asia TV Music Award for Track of the Year and the PTC Punjabi Music Award for Best Pop Vocalist (Male) (2018) for "Lahore," and another PTC Punjabi Music Award for Best Pop Vocalist (Male) (2020) for "Slowly Slowly." Through commercial success, international collaborations, and an enduring ability to create crossover hits, Guru Randhawa continues to play a leading role in taking Punjabi music to audiences around the world.
